Research Based Programming Benefits:

The Mentor. The Mentee. The Relationship. As with all relationships trust is important.

Research shows when we equip youth, particularly girls, with the development of life skills to empower them with knowledge, resources, opportunities and positive experiences that builds confidence, assures and enables them to navigate physical, emotional, economic, and social barriers; they are better enabled to be productive and thrive in today's society.

Research confirms that mentoring changes the trajectory of young lives and that girls with mentors are two and a half times more likely than girls without a mentor to be confident in their ability to be successful. When women mentor girls it provides a gateway to fuel their ambition and confidence. Mentors instill the notion that they can rise above their circumstances, particularly girls with limited opportunities. We help girls and young women set goals for their lives, work with them to achieve those goals, and develop leadership competencies. Some benefits of having a mentor are:

  • increased high school and college graduation rates.
  •  lower high school dropout rates.
  • less likely to initiate drug and alcohol use.
  •  improved behavior, both at home and at school.
  •  stronger relationships with parents, teachers and peers.
  •  improved interpersonal skills.

  •  improved leadership and communication skills.
  •  healthier relationships and lifestyle choices.
  •  better attitude about school and life.
  •  higher college enrollment rates and higher educational aspirations.
  •  increase in career and entrepreneurship ambitions.
  •  enhanced self-esteem and self-confidence.
  • increased interest in learning to set and accomplish goals.
  •  learning critical thinking skills.

  • decrease in promiscuous behavior.

Statistics show that girls who are presented the opportunity to participate regularly in sports do better in school, excel in teamwork, goal-setting skills, and are equipped with the ability to make sound judgments. They have healthy self-esteem and feel better about themselves both physically and socially. Moreover, promoting high self-esteem is central in maintaining good health in girls and young women

Research shows that girls are less likely to take advance classes in math and the sciences or study science, technology, engineering, and math fields in college. That is why mentorship in the are of STEM are important.

Overall, when we support the growth and empowerment of women and girls we raise the quality of life for everyone. More than ever girls need supportive role models and mentors.  In our mentoring programs both parties benefit from the relationship. Mentees and mentors both learn how to mobilize the energies, resources and strengths of each other.
